Published: January 8, 2009

GOLDSBORO -- A man who had several dismembered animals at his house will face a judge next month on several animal-cruelty charges, court officials said yesterday.

Lawton McKenzie, 28, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26 on the three counts, said Ellen Grice, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

McKenzie also faces a hearing Jan. 15 on a civil complaint by the county that requires him to pay for the upkeep of the 26 surviving animals taken from his house.
