Pit Bull pups stolen from Wilmington homes

A dog breeder in Wilmington wants to know who stole two pit bull puppies from his and his neighbor's backyards.

The American pit bull pups were taken from the backyards on Evans Street sometime overnight between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Daniel Patterson reported that he left his three dogs, a mother and two puppies, in a makeshift chain link cage in the backyard. On Wednesday night, the mother dog and two of her puppies were in the cage. When the victim woke on Thursday morning, the mother and one puppy were still there, but one of the pups was missing, and the mother appeared to have been beaten.

The missing puppy is a black and white pit bull, about two months old. Patterson's son's bike was stolen the same night.

The owner of the other dog says when she went to bed Wednesday, all three of her dogs were in a gated area in her backyard. She said when she got up Thursday, the bricks that usually hold the gate in place were pushed aside, and one of the puppies was missing - a tan and white dog named Junior.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at 343-3600, or to TextATip: Enter Tip708 and the message, and send to CRIMES (274637).
