Domestic violence and animal abuse are two of the most pervasive problems that our society faces. And, in many cases, the problems go hand in hand. More than 70 percent of abused women entering shelters report that their batterers also abused their pets. Countless studies have proved that many people who commit violent crimes against other humans start out beating, torturing and killing animals.
The connection between animal and human abuse is very well documented, and suspected mistreatment of an animal should never be ignored. By reporting suspected animal abuse, you may be protecting human victims within that household.
